Libretto (Indirect Translation):
(Adele is a chambermaid who has stolen her mistress' dress to attend a lavish party. Her mistress' husband believes he recognizes her, and Adele awkwardly and nervously attempts to convince him that she is far too elegant to be a maid)

Mein Herr Marquis, ein Mann wie Sie
Sollt’ besser das verstehn,
Darum rate ich, ja genauer sich
Die Leute anzusehen!
(My lord Marquis, you've insulted me! A most impolite thing to do.
Though you were unkind, I am too refined 
to say what I think of you!)
